Interior Design in Bangladesh Complete Guide 2026

Last Updated on 26/05/2026 by

The experience many Bangladeshi homeowners will recognize is as follows. You receive the keys to your new apartment. You enter your unit there is a strong smell of freshly poured concrete; and for a brief period, you can imagine all the possibilities of what this space could be transformed into.

Your imagination fades quickly. Your focus then shifts toward receiving quotes on Interior Design Service. Estimates for Interior design vary greatly depending upon who you ask. one company may estimate BDT12 lakhs while another company provides an estimate of BDT 35 lakhs for the same apartment. A contractor states they can accomplish your Interior design in three 3 weeks. Another contractor tells you it may take three 3 months. All contractors appear to be very confident. However, none give you a direct answer.

It was this uncertainty that led us to write this guide. Kazi Family has been engaged in providing Service Interior Design in Bangladesh since 2010. In that time frame we have successfully completed over 549 projects ranging from a single room in Mirpur to full scale commercial fit-out jobs in Gulshan.

For over 15 years we have experienced all aspects of this industry. We have seen those who use shortcuts to save money, we have seen true professionals doing honest work, we have seen materials used by contractors that would provide excellent service and longevity during monsoons, and we have also seen materials that would fail and deteriorate completely during monsoons.

This is the type of information and guidance that we wished existed when our first client was beginning his first Interior design project. Therefore, no sales language exists in this document. Nor are there any ambiguous estimates. Rather, this is the total amount of information you should require regarding Interior design in Bangladesh in 2026 arranged in a manner to allow you to make educated choices.

What does Interior design really mean in Bangladesh?

Before we move forward to discuss the various elements involved in completing an Interior design project, we must address a misconception that results in unnecessary expenses.

Interior design is not decorating. Decorating refers to purchasing decorative items such as pillows and arranging them aesthetically pleasingly. Interior design involves the systematic process of conceptualizing, designing, and executing the final result of a fully completed space including space planning, material selection, lighting design, furniture arrangement, coordination of civil works with construction supervisors.

Therefore, when you contract an Interior designer to perform a job for you, you are contracting with individuals responsible for making all of the decision-making necessary to ensure your space functions properly prior to a single screw being placed.

In BANGLADESH this distinction becomes particularly relevant due to unique constraints present in each residential property.

Why do dhakees need to approach their home’s design differently than others in india and pakistan

Dhaka apartments typically contain ceilings measuring approximately 9 feet tall, which seems adequate until a false ceiling is installed and the height of your bedroom drops to feel like a small box. Due to high levels of humidity found in Dhaka (typically 70% – 85%) for half of the calendar year, foreign-made products and materials suitable for use in areas such as Singapore or Delhi will grow mildew, warp and swell significantly within two years if they are selected without proper consideration given to local environmental conditions.

Additionally, BANGLADESH’s electrical supply creates issues with any lighting design that fails to incorporate IPS backup generators and therefore represents only half of what constitutes a functional Interior design.

Furthermore, bangladeshi families typically consist of extended family members living together along with multiple guest rooms available for visiting relatives. Live-in staff are common. Therefore, the typical residential space needs required by two person households cannot be addressed by most standard designs used in other parts of asia.

A successful Interior design firm in Bangladesh does not merely create beautiful spaces. They create spaces that meet the functional demands of Bangladeshis as they live.

Homeowners considering their first Interior design project should begin by focusing on determining their flat layout. Understanding flat-specific Interior design options for your area will assist in creating reasonable expectations prior to discussing your project with any potential companies.

Interior Design Across Bangladesh City by City

Types Of Interior Design Services Found In Bangladesh

There are generally three types of Interior Design Service available in Bangladesh. By understanding which category best suits your needs, you will avoid spending excessive amounts of time searching for the correct type of company.

Residential Interior Design

It involves designing homes & apartments bedrooms, kitchens, living spaces, bathrooms, etc. In Bangladesh, it accounts for the largest share of interior DESIGN & offers the greatest variety of budgets & scopes.

The scale of residential projects ranges from a single bedroom redo to a complete apartment refit. The typical elements include; false ceilings, Custom-made carpentry (wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, TV units) floor covering options, lighting, wall finishes, bathroom fixtures, and either selecting or manufacturing Custom furniture.

Mostly clients begin with one room. Typically a bedroom that lacks adequate storage, or a kitchen which never functioned properly. This is a completely rational beginning to the process & an excellent interior DESIGN firm would create that single room keeping in view the entire house, so subsequent rooms will connect organically, rather than colliding.

Due to the fact that most families in Bangladesh spend the majority of their time in their bedrooms & the quality of the materials utilized directly impacts their comfort levels each day; bedroom interior DESIGN in Bangladesh warrants special consideration. As such, when getting the bedroom right (the storage, lighting temperatures, ceiling finishing) it sets the precedent for every other room.

Commercial Interior Design

Includes offices, restaurants, retail stores/showrooms, & any commercial facility. The priorities of commercial projects differ from those of residential projects. Commercial projects have to account for productivity, branding identity, client experience & regulatory compliance as part of the DESIGN considerations that don’t exist for a private residence.

Since 2020 office interior DESIGN in Bangladesh has developed dramatically due to both the growth of the it sector & a general move away from unprofessionally designed workplaces towards better designed workspaces. Today, organizations recognize that their workspace impacts employee performance & therefore make investments accordingly.

Restaurant/retail DESIGN follow entirely different logics. Flow of traffic through facilities, hygiene issues associated with food preparation/service areas, lighting that creates visual appeal for food products presented for consumption, cleaning frequency & ease of cleaning all represent unique requirements that a residential designer may not have the training/experience to address.

Room specific & partial projects

Not every client requires/budgets for an entire apartment renovation. Many clients contact interior designers with a specific room in mind e.g., a kitchen that has always lacked adequate storage space, a bathroom that looks dated/old fashioned, or a drawing room that is necessary for meeting with clients & requires greater professionalism.

Many interior DESIGN professionals begin their work in Bangladesh with room-specific & focused projects which resolve a real issue/problem.

Kitchen DESIGN in Bangladesh is one of most requested single room services we handle

As mentioned above kitchens are generally the most costly room per square foot. They combine high-end customized carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation & multiple types of materials which require durability against high-temperature/moisture conditions. Therefore, getting your kitchen right has an oversized impact on daily life.

Drawing room DESIGN is another commonly used starting point for clients who receive guests frequently

Drawn rooms serve as a representation of the family to outsiders. Clients often seek to create a space that appears more thoughtful/intentional than the rest of their apartment.

Cost of Interior Design in Bangladesh 2026

That is the first question everybody asks. And it definitely merits an honest reply.

In Bangladesh in 2026 interior design costs anywhere from BDT 800 to BDT 4500 per square feet depending upon what materials are selected & degree of design complexity involved along with desired finish level.

That is a large spread, and the explanation for why there is such a large spread exists in the fact that the industry encompasses almost everything from contractor-based supervision on minimal budget projects to company managed projects with professional design staff.

Below are explanations for how the three primary tiers of interior design service delivery are applied in actuality:

Basic Package — BDT800-BDT1200/sq.ft

At this tier we deliver standard grade materials plus simple carpentry plus standard paint finish plus functional lighting. At this tier if you were working on a 1,200 sq.ft apartment you could anticipate spending somewhere around BDT14 lakh to BDT24 lakh overall for a completed project.

You get:

  • A-grade 12mm partex boards used for woodworks.
  • Standard gorjon wood frames.
  • Simple LED lighting.
  • Berger or Roxy paint applied in three coats.
  • Standard bathroom fixtures.

You do not get:

  • Custom furniture.
  • Premium materials.
  • Imported hardware.
  • Pre-project creation of 3-d visualization images.
  • Structured project management.
  • This tier is suitable for rental properties, first apartments where budget constraints exist & rooms that require functionality without needing to be exceptional.

Standard Package – BDT1200 to BDT1800 per sq. Ft.

It’s the preferred package for the majority of mid-income households in Dhaka. For example, a 1500 sq. Ft. Apartment would fall in the range of BDT 37 lakh to BDT52 lakh for the entire apartment.

What you get:

  • marine plywood grade bwp
  • quality lacquer or PU finishes
  • modular kitchen with soft-close hardware
  • false ceiling with cove lighting
  • premium paint
  • recessed lighting
  • active project supervision
  • 3-d design visualization included

Factors that can increase/decrease price within tier:

Hardware. Local vs. Imported hardware. Brands like akij & Partex provide reliable options locally. Hinges, drawer systems, handles etc. From Malaysia or Turkey can increase carpentry costs by 15% to 25%. However, extending life expectancy of cabinets in humid climates is very much possible with such imports.

Premium Package – BDT2000 to BDT6000 + per square foot

Total cost for a 2000 sq. Ft. Apartment at this price point ranges from BDT40 lakh toBDT1.2 cr. And more. The Premium Package includes import materials, custom designed furniture, smart home integration, luxury bathroom fittings, high-end light fixtures and full project management from a senior team of designers.

You can find examples of premium packages in high-rise apartments in Gulshan, Banani, Bashundhara and other affluent areas. Also, nrbc clients who come back to Bangladesh after living abroad usually ask for this type of fit-out in their Sylhet or Dhaka properties.

Room to room cost breakdown

Room-to-room cost breakdown

Knowing what each room typically costs, will help you focus your spending priorities once your overall budget has been determined.

Kitchen

BDT8000 toBDT250,000+. The kitchen is generally the most costly area as it involves the combination of carpentary, plumbing, electrical and material selections that all need to perform well under pressure. While a basic, moduler kitchen made out of MDF/melamine would start at approximately BDT12,000; a fully customised lacquer/veneer kitchen could reach up to BDT800k to BDT1.2 corer.

Bedroom

BDT 1 lakh to BDT 3 lakh for a basic master bedroom with wardrobe, ceiling treatment and lighting. The primary factors affecting the cost of bedrooms are the ceiling and storage system.

Living/drawing room

Cost depends on how complex the ceiling is, the wall treatment and if furniture is built-in or source-purchased. Cost can range from BDT1.2 lakh to BDT4 lakh.

Bathroom

BDT50,000 to BDT1.5 lakh Smaller bathrooms have one of the greatest impacts per square foot of any room in the house. Choice of tiles, vanity and quality fitting can greatly improve a bathroom’s aesthetic value while minimizing space requirements.

Interior walls and ceilings across an entire apartment

Design choices for accent painting, veneer cladding and wallpaper feature walls can add between BDT15,000 to BDT80,000 depending on coverage and material. Similarly, interior ceiling design which many clients underestimate in terms of cost typically runs from BDT600 toBDT1,500 per sq.ft. For gypsum false ceilings with LED treatments.

Hidden costs no one tells you about

All residential interior projects in Bangladesh generate costs that are not initially stated in your quote. Make sure to budget for these or they will be an unexpected surprise.

Civil work preparation:

If your apartment is over five years old, you may need to replaster walls before any surface treatment can begin. Dampness, salt deposits (locally known as nona) and uneven surfaces must be addressed before tiled or painted surfaces go on. Civil prep work can add anything from BDT50,000 to BDT1.5 lakh to an older renovation.

Electrical rewiring:

Older apartments often have insufficiently sized or poorly routed electrical systems which cannot safely handle modern appliances, lighting circuits and air conditioning units. Rewiring adds cost but is truly necessary for safety purposes.

Anti-termite treatment:

Bangladesh soil is termite prone. All plywood should be anti-termite treated prior to installation. The concrete floor should also be sprayed before wooden flooring or carpentry installation begins. This is non-negotiable if you want your woodwork to last.

Post-furniture delivery touch-up:

Moving furniture into a completed apartment creates marks on walls, scuffs on floors and minor damage to door frames. Budget a little money BDT10,000 to BDT25,000 for post-delivery touch-up.

Interior Design Styles working in Bangladesh

Interior Design Styles working in Bangladesh

As of 2026, there are three design trends currently popular in the residential market throughout Bangladesh. An understanding of these styles allows you to convey your design preferences to a designer.

Warm Modern Minimalism

Currently the number one requested style by residents of apartments in Dhaka, especially those in newly built apartment complexes in areas such as Bashundhara, Aftabnagor and Uttara. Warm Modern Minimalism incorporates simple, clean lines and surfaces with warm color tones (cream, off-white, warm gray, soft woods) with an emphasis on concealed storage.

What is so appealing about the use of Minimalism in the context of Bangladesh, is its direct relation to space. For example, when using minimalism in a 900 square foot apartment with a 9-foot ceiling, the result is not an empty feeling – it’s a thoughtful and airy feeling. This style also photographs well, ages well, and requires less upkeep than decorative styles.

However, the danger with using Minimalism is that it can be overly “cold.” When the walls are painted a pure white; the floors are cool grays; and there is excessive lighting, the resulting space can appear sterile. Therefore, the warmth in Warm Modern Minimalism is not optional. It is what ultimately makes a space functional – not merely visually appealing.

Cultural Fusion

This represents the most innovative trend in Bangladesh Interior Design over the past two years. Increasingly, some homeowners primarily young professional designers desire spaces that are both globally contemporary yet distinctly Bangladeshi.

Practically speaking, Cultural Fusion means a Jamdani-patterned throw pillow sitting atop a sleek modern sofa. Kantha-inspired wall panels located behind a minimalist bed. Terracotta tile used in a bathroom containing imported tile. Polished concrete paired with woven cane furniture. The reference points are deliberate and selective – they represent a clear nod to the homeowner’s roots not a complete revival of traditional aesthetics.

Drawings rooms are typically where Cultural Fusion is most evident. Drawing rooms that incorporate local craftsmanship with contemporary design send a message about who resides in the residence that is not possible with pure Western Minimalism.

Biophilic Design – Nature inside the home

While bringing natural elements into interior spaces has been practiced for years; there has been a significant increase in its usage in Bangladesh since 2022. As consumers increasingly seek to reduce stress; improve indoor air quality; and establish a visual connection to nature within their urban dwellings, indoor plants; natural wood features; stone textures; rattan and cane furniture; and large windows designed to allow maximum natural light flow have become increasingly requested by clients.

For residents of cities like Dhaka where access to green space is limited; and many residents spend a great deal of time indoors; biophilic design offers a way to connect with nature while indoors.

However, potential pitfalls exist when considering biophilic design. Specifically; plants require ongoing care and attention; and not all plant species thrive in Bangladesh’s indoor environments year round. A knowledgeable designer should provide guidance on which plant species have demonstrated low maintenance needs vs. which plants appear attractive during showroom displays yet fail to survive long-term under normal household conditions.

What Not to Do – Design Decisions That Regularly Fail

White interior finishes: Dhaka’s dust settles on white painted surface quickly. White-painted walls and floors look perfect in photos and extremely tiring to maintain in reality.

False ceilings with many layers in 9 foot rooms: Cofered ceilings, two-step tray ceilings and very complex multi-layered gypsum work require ceiling height to allow breathing. False ceilings in 9 feet rooms create a feeling of being confined instead of impressive. They look wonderful in European houses with 12 feet ceilings. This style cannot be transferred.

Design choices based on trendy products without considering durability: Fluted paneling, stone-look tile and textured wallpaper are currently popular in 2026. Some may last for decades in Bangladesh’s climate. Others may begin to disintegrate in less than 2 years. When shopping for anything, the designer needs to ask the supplier “Is this trend?” But also “How does this perform when there is high humidity?”

ROOM BY ROOM INTEIROR DESIGN GUIDE FOR HOMES IN BANGLADESH

Room By Room Interior Design Guide For Homes In Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, each room in a house has different design considerations that differ from basic design principles. Below are what really matter in each space.

Bedroom Interior Design — Where Comfort Begins

The bedrooms are the space where most of the family spends the bulk of their time inside the house and is the space where poorly designed living arrangements have the largest direct effect on day-to-day functioning. However, it is usually the least amount of money invested into as opposed to Drawing Rooms and Kitchens — the areas where visitors can see.

When designing a bedroom in Bangladesh, three elements need to be given priority over every other element; Storage, Lighting, Air Circulation.

As mentioned earlier, the standard wardrobe size in Dhaka does not accommodate enough storage. Most families’ standard-sized wardrobes become completely filled by the end of the first year after they move into the new home. Building custom-built storage space which includes extending to the top of the ceiling, incorporating a built-in dressing area, and accommodating the increased number of clothes during summer months takes thoughtful planning prior to raising the ceiling.

A detailed interior design guide for bedrooms includes details regarding these decisions and is definitely worth reading before making a decision about your bedroom layout.

Layered lighting is preferred in bedrooms. Cove lighting for evening use provides a cozy ambiance; Spotlights provide direction for the dressing area; Task lighting is required for reading purposes. One central ceiling light fixture is the most common error made when choosing lighting for a bedroom in Bangladesh and is easily avoided through careful planning at an early stage.

Poor airflow is far more detrimental than most designers recognize. Placement of AC units in bedrooms, positioning of fans (ceiling fans) relative to beds, and location of windows both play significant roles in affecting sleep quality.

KITCHEN AND DINING — The Heart of a Bangladeshi Home

There is no space that illustrates better the large gap between theoretical interior design concepts and practical realities for Bangladesh specifically, than the Kitchen.

Most Bangladeshi families prepare meals daily using hot spices while cooking multiple meals per day along with extended family members. As such, the Kitchen is a fully functional working kitchen that cannot be captured by design philosophies originating from Europe or America. Proper ventilation in kitchens is not merely a design feature, it is the difference between having a comfortable and enjoyable place to cook versus filling the entire apartment with smoke every morning.

Interior design concepts for kitchens in Bangladesh that work address ventilation first, followed by adequate storage second and aesthetic appeal third. A modular kitchen that appears aesthetically pleasing yet lacks an effective exhaust system or sufficient storage for a family of five is NOT a functional kitchen.

Often, planning for a dining wagon is overlooked as part of overall kitchen design considerations in Bangladesh. Well-coordinated integration of a dining wagon typically a cabinet connecting the kitchen preparation area to the dining table determines flow of traffic, allocation of storage space, and visually connects cooking and eating areas. Planning and executing this element correctly create a cohesive sense of thoughtfulness throughout the entire kitchen-dining space.

Finally, as previously stated, lighting affects how food appears and how long people stay at a dinner table. Warm pendent lighting at the correct height adds to creating an eventful atmosphere while enjoying dinner. Conversely, harsh overhead lighting has the reverse effect.

Living Room and Drawing Room—First Impression Space

In Bangladesh, the drawing room holds social value that no other room can match. In the drawing room, guests are welcomed; the majority of family events occur there; the household’s image is presented to outsiders. As such, designing the drawing room is not only a design challenge but also a cultural expression.

Practical constraints define the challenges of designing a drawing room. The average size of a Dhaka drawing room ranges from 150 to 250 square feet. The drawings room must accommodate varying numbers of guests, host a television, provide a space for family gatherings on non-special days, and visually appear welcoming at all times.

As much as the aesthetic appeal of each piece matters, arranging sofas defines all aspects of the overall appearance and experience of a drawing room. Mistakes made when selecting and/or arranging furniture (i.e., selecting too-large furnishings, arranging pieces so they obstruct circulation pathways through the space, arranging pieces to not facilitate conversation) render even the most costly individual pieces in an ill-conceived/awkwardly arranged drawing room unappealing.

Bangladesh has experienced considerable advancement in terms of television wall designs. With regard to television wall designs, the stand-alone television cabinet with four legs has become somewhat obsolete. Today’s standard includes built-in entertainment centers with integrated storage, LED-lit backlit panel walls and ceiling designs created in conjunction with television wall installations.

Bathrooms—Highest Visual Return per Square Foot

On average, the average-sized bathroom in Dhaka apartments measures about 50 square feet. Despite being among the smallest spaces in the home, the visual return on investment per taka invested in bathroom design is usually higher than any other space in the house.

Designing small bathrooms in Bangladesh involves concentrating on three elements: first, tile selection (the dominant visual aspect of any given bathroom); second, vanity design (the primary means for facilitating functional activity in the bathroom); third, design of the shower area (determines if a bathroom feels wet/crowded or controlled/enjoyable).

One of the most common mistakes in Bangladesh bathroom renovations is attempting to achieve visual interest via multiple materials. One/two high-quality, selected tile(s) used throughout produce far greater sophistication than five different tile patterns vying for attention. Material restraint produces results.

Waterproofing is not optional. Any bathroom renovation project that does not include waterproofing treatment of the shower area and floor prior to renovation will leak into the room below within 2-3 years. Waterproofing treatment represents the most critical technical consideration in bathroom design and is probably the most frequently overlooked component due to concerns regarding expense.

Walls and Ceilings—Elements That Are Frequently Overlooked

It is the walls of a room that provide character to that space. The flat-painted wall provides a plain background. When walls are provided with additional detail (e.g., a textured feature wall, an accent panel behind the bed, a recessed shelf built into the structural components of a wall), a room becomes perceived as having been thoughtfully authored instead of merely furnished.

Wall treatments suitable for the climatic conditions found in Bangladesh include: wood veneered panels (use WPC-treated veneer or veneer that has been chemically treated to prevent decay and rot; do not use raw wood), fabric-backed wallpaper installed on interior walls distant from bathrooms, lime plaster or micro-cement for textures and simple paintwork executed in a thoughtful color with thorough preparation.

Ceiling design for interior spaces merits an entirely separate discussion, and we have prepared one specifically for Bangladeshi homes and bedrooms. The ceiling is one of five surfaces you cannot avoid viewing from any location within a room. If viewed as an afterthought, approximately 20% of your room’s total surface area is treated as an afterthought.

When considering apartment interiors, ceiling/floor combinations typically represent less than half of what you would spend on carpentry while significantly influencing perceptions of how spacious a room appears compared to virtually all decisions related to furniture placement.

Flat vs. Apartment vs. Duplex

Residential projects vary greatly in their scope and nature; as such, understanding which type of space you are working with impacts both budgetary considerations and design strategies.

Typically referred to as flat interior design in Bangladesh, single-floor residential units are those contained within multi-story buildings and represent the predominant form of residential development in Dhaka. For flat design, priority considerations relate to making limited square footage appear expansive; addressing storage needs across linear plans; and creating discrete zones within either an open or semi-open configuration.

A broader definition of apartment interior design encompasses the same types of space as flat design; however, the term “apartment” generally suggests either a larger/residentially complex unit >1,500 sq.ft with greater numbers of rooms possibly including separate utility areas. Coherence: developing a sense of consistency across larger spaces as opposed to disparate individually decorated rooms is the primary design challenge associated with apartment design.

Finally, duplex interior design is fundamentally distinct. Two floors connected vertically by an internal staircase enable designers to create new opportunities for vertical design (double height living rooms, statement stairways, visual connections between floors) not possible in single-floor residences.

The Interior design business is difficult across two floors

There are many design issues with Interior design across two floors: designing the design language across two floors; developing the staircase as a structural component; and making sure the second floor doesn’t feel like a disconnected afterthought.

Interior Design Across Bangladesh City by City

Bangladesh’s Interior design industry is not standardized across all cities. The costs involved in working in Interior design in bangladesh, the ability to find skilled contractors, the accessibility of materials, and the expectations of clients differ by location.

Dhaka the biggest and most varying Market

Dhaka has the largest number of Interior designers, the largest variety of material suppliers, and the most experienced workforce. However, Dhaka has the highest prices due to its high land costs, operating expenses and demand.

Interior design in Dhaka varies by location

A project in Gulshan or Banani will cost much less than the exact same project in Mirpur or Jatrabari not because the work is any different, but because client expectations, logistics of accessing the jobsite, and costs associated with performing this type of work are vastly different. In addition, companies working in Dhaka’s high-end areas have much higher overheads that are passed along to their customers.

Uttara is one of the most active sub-markets for Interior design in Dhaka

Uttara is one of the fastest-growing residential markets in Dhaka. As such, there is a huge amount of activity among professionals who are seeking quality Interior design services at a budget level that is considered to be mid-range. Additionally, we have performed more Interior design projects within Uttara than anywhere else in Dhaka.

Banani & Mohakhali — commercial/high-rise residential client profile

Clients serviced through our Banani and Mohakhali offices are generally commercial and high-rise residential clients. We perform more corporate office space fit-outs and luxury apartment renovations in these locations than anywhere else in Dhaka.

Chittagong — rapid growth with different priorities

In recent years, Interior design services have grown rapidly in Chittagong. The city’s prosperity as a port and large professional class has created an increasing demand for high-quality Interior design services primarily provided by companies located in Dhaka that travel to Chittagong to service their clients.

Projects completed in Chittagong typically reflect a different aesthetic than those completed in Dhaka slightly more traditional residential interiors and practical applications for commercial spaces. While Chittagong is seeing improved availability of materials, it lags behind Dhaka leading to longer completion times for projects requiring specific materials to be sourced from the capital.

Sylhet — premium projects funded by NRB income

Many of the Interior design projects completed in Sylhet are funded by remittances received from non-resident bangladeshis. These clients have a global perspective on aesthetics and expect a similar quality of finish on their property. Their budgets often reflect this experience abroad.

This results in an interesting scenario: clients with international tastes and expectations for quality finishes; local contractors with varying levels of familiarity with international standards of quality finishes; and improved but still limited access to materials compared to Dhaka. Many of the Interior design projects completed for NRB clients in Sylhet involve managing the gap between client expectations and local capability to execute that vision.

Choosing the right Interior design firm for your project

Selecting the best firm for your Interior design project may very well determine if your project is successful. Choosing poorly could result in costly corrections. This article provides some guidance on evaluating firms to ensure you select wisely.

Five questions to ask before you hire an Interior design firm

  1. Are there at least ten photographs of completed projects?
Photographs demonstrate what a firm actually does. Renderings demonstrate what a firm wants to do.
  2. Who manages construction work on-site, and how frequently?
“we manage everything” is not an acceptable answer. You should ask who oversees on-site construction, how frequently someone checks on progress, and how disputes are escalated.
  3. What details are included in the estimate provided?
A quotation stating simply “full Interior: BDT18 lakh,” is not an estimate. An estimate should detail each element: carpentry per room, materials by grade, civil work, electrical, lighting, supervision fees, etc., so you can compare estimates from multiple firms and clearly understand what you are paying for.
  4. How do you handle revisions after a job commences?
Revisions inevitably occur during any Interior design project. Knowing how a firm handles revision — documentation, transparent pricing, approval prior to proceeding demonstrates their organizational abilities.
  5. What is the payment schedule, and what triggers each payment?
Quality firms use milestone payments based upon project performance. Avoid firms requesting more than thirty percent up-front prior to starting any work.

Red flags that tell you to walk away

No written contract with specifications. Any verbal agreement about interior work in Bangladesh will eventually go bad.

Any quote significantly lower than all others without explanation. Cheap materials and cheap labor both produce the same result for renovations you will need to do again in three years. The company quoting ৳10 lakh for work that everyone else prices at BDT18 lakh is not giving you a deal; they are telling you how much of their time they plan to use on your project.

Any site visit before quoting. It is impossible to provide an accurate quote for interior design work without physically measuring and assessing the space. Anyone who quotes without first visiting the job site is just making a guess.

Any previous client references that you cannot contact. If you want to be able to call up two or three past clients who can verify the quality of service from any given interior design company, then that company should have no fear of sharing those references. If the company has no references available for you to contact, then you should be wondering why.

Types Of Interior Design Services Found In Bangladesh

Individual contractor vs. Interior design company – honest comparison

Any individual contractor will cost less than a company for the same scope of work generally between 25-40 % less. But, when you pay one person less money than a company, you get nothing more than that one person. There is no accountability structure, design expertise, project management capability, warranty support, material sourcing assistance, or escalation pathway for disputes after the fact.

For simple, well-specified work in a new apartment where the requirements are straight forward skilled individual contractors managed closely by an informed client can yield good results at low cost.

For anything that is complex full apartment fit outs, duplex projects, commercial spaces, older apartments with structural/civil issues a company’s accountability structure, design expertise, and project management capability will justify the extra cost of using them.

The truth is that both work in the right situations with the right people.

The interior design process what ACTUALLY happens

Knowing the process from consultation to handover will help you avoid the number one cause of client dissatisfaction: misaligned expectations at each stage.

Step-by-step guide from first Call to Handover

Consultation and site visit: a team member from the company will visit your space, take measurements, discuss your requirements, lifestyle, budget and timeline. This visit should be free and should take at least 60 minutes to 1.5 hours. Anyone who can assess a full apartment in 20 minutes is not collecting enough information to design it properly.

Concept design & 3D visualization: based on the consultation, the design team will create floor plans and photo-realistic 3D renders showing exactly how the finished space will look like. This is where you make all important decisions layout, material choice, color palette, furniture selection prior to physical work starting on the property. Changes made during this stage cost nothing. Changes after work starts will cost time and money.

Design approval & final quotation: once you are satisfied with the designs, the company will produce a final itemized quotation document which governs the project. Read it carefully. Anything that does not exist in this scope document either does not exist or will be quoted as an additional fee later.

Execution & site supervision: physical work on the project begins. For a standard 1200-1500 sq.ft apartment, expect eight to fourteen weeks of work from commencement to hand over. False ceiling/electrical/woodwork completion occur first. Carpentry next. Flooring/paint/fixture installation come last. A weekly update with photographs of the site should be commonplace for most professionals.

Hand-over & after-care: the company will walk you through the complete project and demonstrate functional elements such as light switch controls, cabinet drawers/moved panels, plumbing fittings et al. They will also document any items on the snag list and address these issues within a reasonable timeframe post-hand-over thirty days to sixty days without charge.

What does 3D visualization ACTUALLY show you?

3D renderings are not merely for decking out your proposal document; they serve as tool for discovering prior to any construction work that you did not ACTUALLY want what you thought you wanted.

Kazi Family has found through its experience of nearly fifteen years of providing interior design services that clients change at least one major decision (a layout component, a material component, a color) after seeing their three-dimensional representation of their proposed project. Frequently many times this amount.

The client who sees a warm wood panel on her wardrobe in render and realizes she really wanted white lacquer instead saves the cost of replacing a completed wardrobe.

The client who sees her kitchen layout in three dimensions and finds that the countertop faces the wrong way saves weeks of civil work.

Three-dimensional visualization is not something nice to have; for all projects above BDT5 lakhs it is the most effective tool used throughout the entire process.

Frequent asked Questions Interior Design in Bangladesh

How much does interior design cost in Bangladesh in 2026?

Interior Design in Bangladesh in 2026 generally costs between BDT800 and BDT1,200per per square foot based upon material quality and DESIGN complexity. A simple interior (basic finishes) for a standard 1200 square feet apartment could range between BDT10 to BDT 15 lakh. A mid-range finish could be anywhere from BDT 15 to BDT30 lakh. A premium interior finish (high end materials and fixtures) in the same space may be up to BDT50 lakh to BDT1 crore. The biggest variable factor in determining the total cost of the project is typically the type and quality of the carpentry material used BWP marine plywood vs. Commercial grade plywood. Using one versus the other could potentially increase your total project cost by 20% to 30%.

How long will it take to complete the full apartment interior DESIGN in Bangladesh?

Based upon a typical 1200 to 1500 square foot apartment, it should take approximately 8-14 weeks from start date of construction to completion. Design phase will take anywhere from 3-4 weeks prior to actual construction commencing. Most times when timelines are accelerated on interior design projects in Bangladesh, it is due to some form of corner-cutting; whether it is related to paint-drying time, civil work-curing time, or the amount of supervision provided. Procurement of materials and last-minute design changes made once construction has commenced, are often cited as the main reasons why timelines exceed expected completion.

Can good interior design be done on small apartments?

Yes, and in fact, there are numerous examples that demonstrate how good interior design can create a dramatic improvement in the perceived size of a small space. A well-designed 700 square-foot apartment using built-in storage units that extend upwards to the ceiling, light-colored wall and ceiling finishes, furniture that scales appropriately for the room’s dimensions, strategically placed mirrors, and a suspended ceiling that provides structure without diminishing the sense of verticality — tends to feel larger and more comfortable than a poorly-furnished 1000 square foot apartment. These approaches represent the implementation of logical thinking regarding space utilization, which every seasoned designer understands.

What is the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator in Bangladesh?

A licensed interior designer designs and directs all aspects of an interior space including making structural decisions, creating lighting plans, coordinating civil work, selecting and specifying materials for use in the project. An interior decorator only concerns themselves with surface-level finishes; e.g. Arranging furniture, installing soft goods, accessorizing, etc. Both professionals provide valuable contributions; however, they serve two very different purposes. If your project includes false ceilings, custom millwork, renovating bathrooms or any form of civil work, then you require the services of an interior designer not an interior decorator.

Will Kazi Family BD work outside of Dhaka?

Yes. Kazi Family BD offers interior DESIGN services throughout Bangladesh Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi, Narayanganj and Gazipur. Due to working outside of Dhaka, we coordinate travel schedules and site visits; however, our processes and standards remain consistent regardless of the location of the project.

Is the free 3-dimensional consultation included as part of the total project price?

Our first consultation and site visit are complimentary. Once completed, we generate conceptual floor plans and 3-d visualizations as part of our normal course of providing professional interior design services. With regard to those clients who wish to proceed with the execution of their design project as opposed to simply consulting the cost associated with these elements are incorporated into the client’s overall project price. Clients who elect only to receive a paid-for DESIGN consultation (and not execute the design), may contact us directly for further information relative to their particular situation.

Conclusion of interior design in Bangladesh by 2026

Interior design in Bangladesh by 2026 is a developed industry with true expertise, true accountability and real consequences for making mistakes when deciding on solutions.

Those who get the best results from their interior projects are not always those who have the largest budgets. Rather, it is those who know what to ask for, ask the right questions before signing anything, invest in the design process as much time and money as the execution of the project and work with companies that are truthful about what can be done within the budget provided.

As part of this industry since 2010 (fifteen years), Kazi Family has seen what works well, consistently disappoints and written this guide because informed clients make better partnerships and better partnerships produce better outcomes for all parties involved.

We would like to offer any homeowner or business owner starting an interior design/project a free site visit and consultation. If interested please contact us directly.
